As primarily a digital artist, I love opportunities to work with analogue materials, and this project was a blast!
SELF (Supporting Early Learning Families) is a local organization focused on advocacy and partnerships at the local and state level to provide quality childcare and early learning opportunities for all.
SELF board members approached several local child-inspired artists to paint wooden kid-sized tables and chairs to be auctioned off in order raise awareness and proceeds for families, and I was honored to be invited to participate. Each artist was asked to contribute their table and chair set in the theme of early learning. I created a fun underwater "I Spy" game with my set, supporting visual and shape learning and counting skills, as well as providing a cheeky rhyme to go with it. Kids loved "sitting on the water," hunting out the items in the game, and apart from a simple dolphin and sea turtle, the surface of the table was clear of distractions so they could create their own works of art.
The project included:
- original concept of theme
- hand-painted illustrations
- "I Spy" game and poem
