As primarily a digital artist, I love opportunities to work with analogue materials, and this project was a blast!
SELF (Supporting Early Learning Families) is a local organization focused on advocacy and partnerships at the local and state level to provide quality childcare and early learning opportunities for all.
SELF board members approached several local child-inspired artists to paint wooden kid-sized tables and chairs to be auctioned off in order raise awareness and proceeds for families, and I was honored to be invited to participate. Each artist was asked to contribute their table and chair set in the theme of early learning. I created a fun underwater "I Spy" game in my set, supporting visual and shape learning and counting skills, as well as providing a cheeky rhyme to go with it. Kids loved "sitting on the water," hunting out the items in the game, and the surface of the table was clear of distractions so they could create their own works of art.
The project included:
- original concept of theme
- hand-painted illustrations
- "I Spy" game and poem
